About Our Center

The Cardiovascular Wellness Center takes care of a wide spectrum of heart and vascular diseases. This includes coronary artery disease, peripheral vascular disease, arrhythmia, hypertension, diabetes, and lipid abnormalities.

Dr. Asad Karim

Dr. Karim was raised in Pakistan and England. He graduated from Dow Medical College, University of Karachi, Pakistan. Dr. Karim completed his postgraduate training in Internal Medicine at Loyola University Medical Center/Hines V AMC, Chicago, IL. He later proceeded to complete Cardiology Research Fellowship at Loyola University Medical Center and Clinical Cardiology at St Louis University Medical Center, St Louis, MO. Following post-graduate education he stepped into academic medicine and served as an Assistant Professor of Medicine at University of Nebraska Medical Center for 2 years, followed by 5 years as faculty at University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center/Dallas V AMC, Dallas TX. He has been in private clinical practice since March 2000.

Dr Karim has published and lectured extensively. During his faculty tenure he was awarded grants from the American Heart Association and the VA Research Advisory Group. He performed both basic and clinical research. Dr. Karim was twice nominated by the American College of Cardiology for the prestigious “Young Investigator Award” in Molecular Cardiology in 1991and1993. He also served on research committee as a consultant to the National Institute of Health (NIH). Dr. Karim is American Board of Internal Medicine (ABIM) certified in Internal Medicine (1989), Cardiovascular Diseases (1991, 2001, 2011), and Interventional Cardiology (1998, 2009). He is also credentialed by the American Heart Rhythm Society as a Certified Device Specialist (CCDS) in 2008. He was inducted as a “Fellow” of the American College of Cardiology in 1995 and the Society of Cardiac Angiography and Intervention in 1998.

Dr. Karim’s clinic practice includes consultations, comprehensive lipid and metabolic disorder management, cardiac stress test, nuclear and echo-based, echocardiography, holter monitoring, vascular ultrasound, pacemaker and defibrillator follow ups. Dr. Karim provides complete cardiovascular care in the hospital set up including consultation, coronary and peripheral angiogram, angioplasty and stent. He also performs pacemaker and defibrillator implantation.

Dr. Karim is currently affiliated with Texas Health Presbyterian Hospital in Sherman, Baylor Medical Center in McKinney, Baylor Heart Hospital in Plano and Medical Center of McKinney.
